Tips to prevent your laptop from overheating

Have you ever felt that your laptop's lower surface is quite hot? This is known as the overheating of the system, which is not good. It can cause internal hardware failure and permanent damage. A sure sign that your laptop is overheating is that the cooling fan is running at his maximum speed. This causes the laptop's performance to reduce. To avoid overheating of your laptop, follow the below given easy tips.

1. Avoid excessive multi-tasking ⇒

The laptop's cooling fan speed increases depending on the temperature of CPU which is directly linked to the number of tasks it performs at one time. Less number of tasks = Less CPU usage = Low CPU temperature = Low fan speed = High performance, less heating, no random shutdowns.

2. Unplug The system When Battery gets Fully Charged ⇒

unplug charger

Unplug the system whenever the battery is fully charged, leaving the system plugged to an electric supply for a long time even after the battery has charged up fully will result in heating up your system unnecessarily. This may also lead to lead to poor battery life. You may plug in back when the battery is low. If you wish to keep it plugged in permanently, remove the battery of your laptop (if that option is available for you, new laptops usually don't have that feature.) In this case, your system is plugged into electricity directly.

3. Clear the cooling fan area ⇒

Make sure that there is no blockage or obstacle near the cooling fan's vent. If you find any blockage, immediately remove it. Cooling fan does the job of cooling CPU, internal components inside by sucking fresh air and blowing hot air out, if fan's enclosing area is blocked then hot air would be reflected and get trapped inside which will heat up the system and may also cause damage to hard disk, internal components.

You may also clean the cooling fan from inside if you have some knowledge of opening and closing the back panel properly.

4. Avoid using the laptop on a bed ⇒

Using the laptop on a bed, blanket or pillows will block air vents underneath thereby heat gets build up inside slowly. It will also cause the cooling fan's to suck the dust and debris which lies in the bed. To avoid this, you can use the laptop by tilting it or placing small piece cloth/paper rolled underneath thus providing breathing space. You can also use a laptop-holder for that purpose.

5. Shutdown before keeping it in a bag ⇒

Not shutting down before bagging the laptop will cause similar problems as in the above point. So don't forget to shutdown.

6. Avoid using under direct sunlight ⇒

Hot weather conditions may contribute to heat the system and lower down its performance. It can also damage the hard disk, battery, and other internal hardware stuff.  It usually recommended not to use electronic gadgets in heated conditions. Even mobile phones shouldn't be used.
Always prefer cool/normal places like shades, rooms, etc.
